Sweet and Salty News, TikTok War, and 'Going online with Google' resources
Hello Tech Geeks Community,
Lots of new subscribers here so very warm welcome to our mailing list. We meet here at least twice a month and so happy to have you here.
Last two weeks in the industry have been sweet and salty. The whole industry is now embracing the new normal so wholeheartedly that big companies including Twitter, Square, Nationwide, Google and Facebook recently announced permanent work from home options for their employees even after the pandemic is over.
Apple and Google's COVID-19 contact tracing tech is ready and it’s not an app, it’s an API. On iPhones, it’s with the iOS 13.5 update rolling out now, which also enables iPhone users to use FaceID while wearing a mask. For Android 6.0 or above, a Play Services update will deliver it in the background.
In salty news, the OnePlus 8 Pro got famous on Twitter, when Ben Geskin demonstrated how its “Photochrom” camera filter can be used to see through the Apple TV’s black plastic housing, while Unbox Therapy showed that it can even see through a black T-shirt. In response to this, the company has removed the filter from devices and apologized for “creating privacy concerns and causing troubles for OnePlus users and other netizens,”
Before you all get bored, the last saltiness was demonstrated by Twitter where the company trolled the users by posting ‘Reply to this tweet if you want to be verified’ in light of testing the new feature that limits replies to anyone mentioned in the tweet itself (i.e. nobody).
So far, that tweet has been retweeted by over 28,000 times and favourited around 94,000 times — but not a single person has replied, because… they can’t.
That’s all from the roundup and let’s jump to the community highlights.
